- What is an ROV?
ROV stands for Remotely Operated Vehicle and are robotic submarines. They are used for observing areas that humans will or won't be able to go and observe themselves. For example, if the water is too dangerous and polluted, the ROV can go into the water and gather information for the humans back on land.
- What parts are there to an ROV?
The parts to an ROV should have thrusters , control box, outside frame, and lights. The thrusters are used to help maneuver the ROV. The control box has all of the technical things and wires that power ROV. The outside frame protects the ROV from getting damaged if bumped into other objects. The lights help the ROV and the people that are looking through the camera to help guide the ROV and shine light on the dark parts.
- How do they move? They use the thrusters to move around in all directions. The tether that is attached to the ROV sends power and data back to the ship and video images.
- What are some examples of ROVs?
An example of an ROV is the Hercules. The Hercules was built for the Institute for Exploration. It was built with sepcial tasks that allow it to maneuver up to depths of 4,000 meters. Although it was desgined to gather artifacts from shipwrecks, it can also be used in fields of geology and biology. It’s used to withstand the pressure from the deep parts of the ocean. It was the first of it’s kind to allow passengers on board an
